Past
Sylai's mother had been born into one of the few vampire clans whose blood hadn't been tainted by something else, and she was taught from an early age to be extremely proud of this fact. She was expected to marry a vampire from one of the other clans whose blood hadn't been tainted by something else. Her parents even arranged the perfect match for her. She accepted this arrangement at first, that was until she meet him. He was a werewolf--sworn enemies of her people. Try as she might, she couldn't stop herself from being pulled towards him, and the wolf felt the same. The two developed an intimate relationship but knowing that neither of their people would accept their love they decided to run away together. They lived together in peace for some time, even had a beautiful boy that they named Sylai.
However, Sylai's mother did not know that the man her parents had betrothed her to scour the world for her, and he was disgusted by what he discovered when he finally found her. She had shacked up with one of those beasts and worse she had a child with it. He moved to kill both father and spawn, and Sylai's mother moved between to stop him. The other vampire, however, was much stronger than her and easily rendered her unconscious. When she finally awoke, she found the other vampire holding her one year old son with his arms. She asked where his father was, and other vampire responded with the answer she had known before she voiced the question---he was dead. She demanded that the other vampire hand Sylai over to her, but he refused. He told her that the only she will get to hold her child was when she sold him to another clan to be their pet. There were a few he heard that were in need a new guard dog, and if she refused, he would make her watch him cut her son into tiny little pieces.
Knowing she was powerless to stop him, and not wanting to see her son die, she agreed to his terms. She played the part that the other vampire gave to her perfectly. Those who she sold Sylai were unaware that instead of being revolted by Sylai's very existence that she loved him with every fiber of her being. and instead of being incapable of ending his miserable life she was powerless to save him. Once a payment was agreed upon, Sylai's mother walked away with the other vampire hoping that someday her son would forgive her for her weakness. Those he had been sold wasted no time bringing him into the estate to put a tattoo upon his neck, that would give them complete control over his transformations. They, however, would never make use of the marking as that very night the clan was attacked by a group of vampire hunters and Sylai was almost lost within the ensuring chaos. He was found by one of the hunters who decided to take him in as her own, but the others within the group were displeased with this plan and while she was sleeping, they placed Sylai within an orphanage.
This was where Sylai grew up. He knew he was different from the other children. It was clear in the way they avoided him, refused to play with him. He thought it might have something to do with the birthmark upon his neck. He decided that it was a birthmark because it had been there for as long as he remembers. He decided that it must be the mark because everyone--adult and child alike--were unnerved by it, but despite his best efforts he couldn't get anyone to explain why. His time within the orphanage came to an end during his thirteenth year. He had transformed into his wolf form for the first time. It is unclear what caused the change--whether it was something that was bound to happen when he reached a certain age or if the change was a trauma response. Whatever the truth, when he changed back, he discovered that he had killed everyone within the orphanage. He was horrified over what he had done. He decided to find the truth of his heritage, and with that knowledge gain the skills necessary to better prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

He decided to find the truth of his heritage, and with that knowledge gain the skills necessary to better prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
It didn't take him long to find his mother's place of residents, but the person who answered the door when he knocked upon it was the very same man who forced his mother to give him up. This man was now married to Sylai's mother and was more than happy to answer every question that Sylai had about his heritage. He told Sylai the same thing his mother had told the vampire clan that he had forced his mother to sell him to. Any hope of finding a place to belong was quickly shattered upon receiving this information. What changes were there for the rest of the world to accept him when his own mother was disgusted by his very existence. While this news was harrowing Sylai now knew the truth of what he was. He left his mother's estate with an unwavering determination to learn how to use his abilities--at the very least his werewolf ones. He decided that since his mother wanted nothing to do with him that he would have nothing to do with her and her vampiric blood. He believed that he could make himself into a full wolf, and eventually he came to the conclusion that he had succeeded in doing just that. Through, he does acknowledge that the woman who bore him had been a vampire.
He traveled the world for a time, taking up odd and end jobs wherever he went. Everywhere he went he was regarded as an outcast that made others feel uneasy. He didn't care about this. Their opinion meant nothing to him. Time and time again the world had shown him that he could only trust himself because eventually everyone will betray you. Despite or perhaps because of his antisocial attitude, Sylai had no shortage of lovers. One was a woman by the name of Arlet. However, unlike the strings of other lovers Sylai developed genuine feelings for Arlet. He convinced himself that she was different from all the others--that she would accept him for what he was if he showed her the truth. However, he quickly discovered how wrong he had been when she fled from him after he transformed before her. While he was heartbroken by her rejection, he wasn't angry with her. In truth, he was grateful towards her because if she hadn't responded in the manner that she had he would still be clinging to the delusion that his mother had been wrong, and he wasn't a monster unworthy of love. He later heard that she became the lover of two vampires who made her immortal by turning her into their blood doll or human servant or something of that sort--the exact details are sketchy to him.
Sylai decided to become a hunter of supernatural creatures. He didn't do it for any heroic reason. He had no desire to save the world. The world could burn for all he cared. He did it for the thrill and the challenge. He chose his target based on how powerful they were. No other details mattered not even the numbers of victims they had killed themselves. It was through one of his intended targets that he would find another lover who he deluded into believing might truly accept him. He didn't know what she was, nor did he care. The only thing that mattered was he was going to kill her, but instead of defending herself against his attacks she pulled down the blouse of her dress and told him that if killing her would ease his suffering that she would gladly give her life. Sylai was taken back by her words. He decided not to kill her, but since she would gladly give her life to ease his suffering that meant she belonged to him. She was to be his whore. He took her home, and despite his best efforts he began to fall in love with her. However, it became clear they weren't meant to be because he came upon her dead body. It is unclear what happened, but the most accepted theory was that she had committed suicide because she couldn't stand being his lover anymore. Whatever the truth, Sylai cursed himself for opening himself to the very same delusion he had with Arlet.
Present
The rule of the pack is simple: The strong rule and the weak serve. Sylai believes that this is the ultimate law of the universe and anyone who pretends otherwise is in denial. After all, one just needs to go out into the wilderness to see this undeniable truth at work. It is the strong that survives and the weak that dies. If one is too weak to adapt to a changing world they die. If one is too weak to defend themselves against those that wish them harm than they die. While Sylai does enjoys the many privileges that comes with his position, sometimes he enjoys pretending he is just a simple eighteen-year-old. It was through one of these acts that he met her--a human girl. He decided to date her as this other persona of his, which is completely different from who he truly is. He wants to reveal the truth to her but knows how she would respond to it. How could someone who loves the person he pretends to be love the monster he truly is? He doesn't know how long he has before she realizes the truth, but he will enjoy the time they have together while he still can.
